# Companies

> Group your leads by the company they work at, however each one was typed.

Leads carry their company as free text, typed by whoever captured them. "Vodafone", "Vodaphone", "vodafone egypt S.A.E" and "فودافون مصر" were four different companies to every list and filter you had.

**Companies** gives each real company one row, and keeps every way it has been written as a **spelling**. Find it beside **Leads** and **Tags**.

<Note>
  What a lead typed is never rewritten. The capture data stays exactly as it was — which is why a wrong match is visible and a merge can be undone.
</Note>

## Building the directory

The first time you open Companies, Tap groups the leads you already have: *"Building your directory — 420 of 1,800 leads grouped."* You can leave the page; it keeps going.

After that, new leads are filed as they arrive.

## How a lead is filed

A lead joins a company on its own when the company name matches once tidied, when its email domain matches, or when its phone number matches one already seen on that company's leads.

Each lead shows how it was filed — **Matched by email**, **Matched by phone**, or **Set by hand** — and what it was **Typed as**.

<Note>
  Matching is rules only. No AI decides which company a lead belongs to, so the same lead is always filed the same way, and it costs nothing per lead.
</Note>

A company belongs to your whole account, never to one department.

## The list

Each row shows the company, its industry, how many leads it has, who captured them, and when the last one arrived. Companies written more than one way show *also written as …*.

Three tabs:

| Tab | What's in it |
| - | - |
| **All** | Every company |
| **Needs review** | Groups that look like one company written two ways |
| **No website** | Companies with no website yet — the ones worth filling in first |

The footer counts how many leads have no company at all.

## Reviewing look-alikes

Tap flags pairs it thinks are the same company and tells you **why**:

| Reason | Example |
| - | - |
| **Similar spelling** | Vodafone / Vodaphone |
| **Same name in Arabic and English** | فودافون مصر / Vodafone Egypt |
| **One name inside the other** | Acme / Acme Holding |
| **Same phone number** | Two names, one switchboard |
| **Same website** | Two names, one domain |

For each group, pick the **name to keep** and **Merge**, or **Keep separate** if they really are two businesses. Keeping separate is remembered — Tap won't ask again.

<Tip>
  Watch for **different websites** on a flagged pair. Two companies with similar names and different domains are usually genuinely different — a regional subsidiary, or an unrelated business with a similar name.
</Tip>

## Merging

Merging moves every lead onto the company you keep, and the other names stay behind as spellings — so a lead typed either way still lands in the right place.

<Check>
  A merge can be undone. **Undo** appears straight after, and reverses the move.
</Check>

## Spellings

Open a company to see **Also written as**, with the hint that explains it: *a lead typed any of these ways lands here.*

Add a spelling to catch a variant you know your team uses. Removing one moves the leads that typed it that way to a company of their own — Tap tells you how many before you confirm.

## Fixing one lead

From a company's lead list, **Move to another company** or **Remove from this company**. From the leads list, select leads and **Set company** to file them together — up to 500 at a time.

On a lead itself you can set or change its company, and create a new company from the picker if it isn't there yet.

## Adding companies yourself

**Add company** takes a name, optional other spellings, website, industry, size, and city. Tap warns you if the name already exists, or looks like one that does — *"Looks like Acme, which has 23 leads"* — with a link to open it.

## Importing companies

**Import CSV** brings in a list — your account list, a CRM export, an exhibitor directory.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Upload">
    Only the **company name** is required. Other spellings, website, industry, size, and city are optional. **Download the template** if you want the format.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Match your columns">
    Tap guesses, you correct. Anything you don't want becomes **Not imported**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review">
    You see how many companies are new, how many already exist, and how many of your existing leads will move under them. Rows with no name are skipped, and a name appearing twice is imported once.

    For companies you already have, choose **Update with the new file** (fills in missing details and adds the new spellings) or **Skip them** (keep what you have).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Import">
    You get a summary: companies added, companies updated, leads moved. Any skipped rows can be downloaded to fix and re-upload.
  </Step>
</Steps>

An import can flag look-alikes too, which land in **Needs review**.

## Deleting a company

Deleting doesn't delete leads — they're left with no company. Tap says how many before you confirm.

<Tip>
  Deleting is rarely what you want. If two companies are really one, **merge** them instead — that keeps the spellings working and can be undone.
</Tip>

## What you can see

A company's lead count covers the whole account, but you only see the leads you're allowed to see. Where that differs you're told: *"18 of 40 leads · the rest are in other departments"*.
